Qualities of a Guru

PDF Print E-mail

Even though he may appear to be drawn externally his attention is always drawn inwards. He possesses divine wisdom not limited by time, he is an adept, and his blessings definitely turn as materialization. A true Guru has the capacity to bestow blessings. This is also true for withdrawal of grace thus bestowed which is done rarely. He is very peaceful, he is very compassionate towards all beings, he is master of his senses, and he is generally reserved. He knows true qualities of disciple and otherwise. He is very balanced in mind. His external appearances are with saintly adornments.

He has no sense of personal belongingness, ever satisfied, always free and possesses endless powers. True devotees attract easily his friendship, he is witty and sweet. He is beyond attraction and repulsion, he is fearless, and he is egoless and is beyond all differences. He engages himself in dutiful actions and remains ecstatic constantly. He himself practices the spiritual truth and explains the spiritual practices to the devotees by setting an example and explaining to them the practices in detail. He is content with the income as though it is a blessing from divine. Such a true guru can confer the true knowledge.

A true Guru is not attracted by opposite sex and is beyond the weakness for money. He doesn’t keep bad company. He is beyond all doubts and duality and is content in himself. He does not have any deep desire and does not make any strong affirmation for fulfillment of any desire. His mind is beyond desire and fulfillment. He doesn’t take sides. He is beyond attractions and rejections and is one who has attained self-realization. He follows rigidly the scriptural injunction. He doesn’t expect anything of anybody. With his own spiritual power he guides and molds others for better. A true Guru endowed with the above qualities can only confer divine wisdom.

GURU is God and in fact he is Lord SHIVA himself.

Lord Shiva is without beginning and end; he is beyond all limitations or modifications of mind. How can he be worshiped who cannot be located in time or space? Shiva himself is in fact worshipped in the form of a Guru. He gives worldly blessing as well releases you from the illusionary world. The human eye does not understand a divine form beyond Gurus appearance. Shiva himself protects the disciple in the guise of a Guru.

God hides himself in guise of Guru in order to bless the devotees. Even though lord is formless he takes a form of a Guru to bless his devotees. He looks like a person of this world only in order to shower blessings on the devotees. The right way to view the Guru is to see God himself in the guise of a Guru.

Just as a blind cannot see the risen sun similarly a worldly minded person is unable to see the infinite form of God behind the human form of the true Guru. It is the truth and the only truth that a true Guru is God himself. If this is not the case how can a Guru confer liberation to disciple? Guru and God are identical it is incorrect to see them as different.

A guru destroys the root of ignorance and confers the highest level of wisdom to their disciple through his divine wisdom. In fact Deeksha is given by God himself through the Guru. Roots of ignorance are destroyed and divine wisdom is bestowed to be free from all bondages. Guru accepts the worship by his devotee assuming the form of Lord Shiva and therefore can confer final release to such a devotee.

The modification of mind of likes and dislikes, attractions and repulsion are the root cause of bondage. By releasing a devotee from these bondages a mind is free eternally and liberation thus attained. The illusion of desire and release of such desire leads to liberation. One who can destroy all delusions in the mind of disciple and confer release from all bondages is a true Guru. One who has a mere scriptural knowledge without actually experiencing the truth behind them cannot be a Guru. A true Guru is always truthful, abides and practices truth, he adores his own Guru, he is steadfast in his devotion, he meticulously follows the spiritual injunction in all details, abides in his SELF, is never insincere, he doesn’t desire worldly wealth and he has high characteristic. It is desired one should look for such a true Guru and after keep Company of such a Guru listen to his words of advice and free mind from all bondages.

In the spiritual teaching the Guru brings the disciple to the sacred feet of the lord. He enables the disciple to pierce the energy centers located in the spine. He has a deep spiritual wisdom, deep knowledge of effects of mantras (divine sound), all subtle levels of existence and knows the final reality. He takes the prana into the subtle levels and makes the disciple experience the formless God. He knows all the spiritual ritualistic practices prescribed in the Vedas. He knows the clearing of the six spinal centers. He knows how to activate the mantras. Such a Guru is like self-created God. He knows the activation of the mantra, he knows the different stages and characteristics of the awakened Kundalini, the stages of divine effulgence and he knows how to be an adept in practice of specific mantra. Such a person endowed with divine wisdom can be a GURU.
